On 23rd March, in honor of Martyrs’ Day, Aagaaz Youth Club organized an enriching event titled Walk and Talk to celebrate the contributions of Indian reformer Rash Behari Bose. This event was a significant commemoration, as it paid tribute to a prominent martyr whose legacy lives on through the street named after him in Dehradun. The event marked the first episode of the Aagaaz Walk and Talk series, which took place at Ghosi Gali, a historical street in the heart of Dehradun.
Ghosi gali known for its narrow streets and historical significance is a popular area in paltan bazaar home to well known bakeries, printing and cloth shops serving the city for decades.
Historian Vijay Bhatt, who led the walk, shared his deep knowledge of the area, recounting the rich history of Ghosi Gali and the story behind its naming. He explained that the street was named after Rash Behari Bose, a revolutionary figure and reformer who made notable contributions to the Indian freedom struggle. His connection to the area was not just symbolic but rooted in the people who resided there, commonly referred to as ‘Ghoshi.’ Bhatt’s narrative illuminated the significance of the street and its role in preserving the memory of Rash Behari Bose’s remarkable life and his enduring impact on Indian society.
The walk also served as a reminder of the broader historical context, linking the local history of Dehradun with the national movement for independence. It provided the participants with an opportunity to explore the city’s hidden historical gems and reflect on the lives of those who sacrificed for India’s freedom. The event was a fitting tribute to Rash Behari Bose’s contributions and showcased the importance of local history in understanding the larger narrative of India’s fight for independence.
Aagaaz believes that you can work for the society once you are deeply connected to it hence walk and talk is an open initiative to allow participants to know their streets well.
